Recycling Guidelines

 

Proper Separation of Recyclables

Place the following items inside your recycling bin

and at the curb by 6:00 a.m.

Please discard items not recyclable as trash.

 

ALUMINUM CANS - Empty and dry, whole or flattened.

 

TIN FOOD CANS - Empty, clean, whole or flattened with labels off.  This includes empty, dry paint cans.

 

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD:  Not accepted on recycling route.

    May be brought to a recycling facility.

 

GLASS JARS & BOTTLES – Empty, clean, unbroken, and caps removed.  NO BROKEN GLASS!

Unacceptable:  Light bulbs, mirrors, windows, dishes, drinking glasses.

 

PLASTIC – Empty, clean with caps and lids removed.  Will accept any plastic container that is one gallon or less in size, has a neck and can be bought in a grocery store.

Unacceptable:  Hard plastic, plastic bags, cool whip or margarine tubs, hoses, caps, pipe, toys, etc.

 

NEWSPRINT – Bagged or bundled, dry and clean.  Loose newsprint will not be accepted.

 

CATALOGS AND MAGAZINES – Bagged, bundled or boxed.  Phone books are accepted.  Loose magazines will not be accepted.  Please keep separate from newspaper.

 

The following facilities are open daily and accept corrugated cardboard in addition to all the recyclable materials listed above:

 

Alexandria Incinerator at 2215 South Jefferson Street, Alexandria

Pope County Highway Garage at 114 Minnesota West, Glenwood
